On the 8th, reporters learned from the Qinghai Provincial Department of Natural Resources that 68 historical mine‑related ecological restoration projects, including those in Zhongling Village, Jingyang Town, Datong County, Xining City, meet the eligibility criteria for support under the 2021 central government transfer payments—specifically, the special fund for key ecological protection, restoration, and governance—and have been included in the 2021 list of priority ecological governance projects.
According to a China News Service reporter, the aforementioned 68 projects are concentrated in eight prefectures and cities—Xining, Haidong, Huangnan, Guoluo, Yushu, Haixi, Haibei, and Hainan—and largely involve abandoned mines left over from sand and stone extraction, as well as gold, iron, coal, and tungsten‑antimony mines.
The aforementioned project is planned to remediate an area of 2,152 hectares, with approved budgetary funding exceeding RMB 200 million.
According to earlier reports by journalists, environmental restoration and remediation of historically abandoned mines in Qinghai Province began in 2003. After nearly two decades of sustained efforts, significant progress has been made in addressing the environmental legacy of these abandoned mines across the province. Specifically, from 2003 to 2016, a total of 14,600 hectares were restored; since 2017, the pace of environmental restoration for historically abandoned mines has accelerated.
